Take a bite of anything in the Faery realm…

And part of you will stay there forever.

When Fairytales tell of humans consuming the forbidden foods of the Otherworld, might they actually be pointing toward the hidden relationship between plant magic and Fae enchantment?

In this article, we will explore the magical Amanita muscaria mushroom’s relationship with Faery witchcraft. Let’s dive in.

Please note that this article is just my perspective, your experiences can be completely different. There are many ways into faery and many forms a plant medicine path can take. This article is for entertainment only. I am not suggesting you ingest amanita mushrooms.

Dancing in the Faery Realms

Befriending the Faeries (fairies) typically comes with warnings. You’ve heard them before. The Fae are unpredictable. Their morals are different than humans. Don’t make promises or deals with them you cannot follow through on…And so on.

So keep that in mind, but don’t let it stop you from reaching out to the faeries if you feel the call.

Touching the Eternal: A Timeless Place

Let me ask you this. If Faery is a realm beyond time, does it follow that entheogenic medicine, which connects us to the eternal, might open us to those same timeless Fae states in our here and now?

For those called to this work, these initiatory spirit-altering experiences can be a vital step on a Faery magical path. Are you being guided by these mushroom teachers to be in service with them and carry their medicine?

For me, the Amanita muscaria mushroom has been an important spirit teacher on my plant path and my training in ecstatic, heart-anchored witchcraft.

The Human Heart as a Bridge to Faery Magic and Witchcraft

As a practitioner who allies with Faery entities, I have found an open heart an essential part of engaging with the Fae. Making contact with spirits is enhanced when we have access to our dynamic array of emotions. Without this, the way to some faery magic is blocked if not impossible to traverse.

However, the more intimate we get with our emotions, the more we risk exposure to our vulnerabilities, fears, and wounds.

We should prepare ourselves for confronting, processing, and dealing with what has been in the shadows when we engage these powers, especially when the spirits of entheogenic mushrooms and plant medicines get involved. We might have to prioritize tending to our heart’s emotional needs as we move deeper into our craft.

Doing this spiritual work can be unsettling and uncomfortable, but it also widens our capacity for awe, wonderment, joy, and ecstatic pleasure, drawing us closer to the Cosmic mysteries.

Initiation in Amanita Mushroom Mysteries

The Amanita muscaria mushroom, known for its red cap and white spots, has long been a symbol of magic, ancient shamanic practices, and altered consciousness (1).

Let’s go deeper with this plant medicine…

The Chemical Composition of Amanita Mushrooms

Amanita muscaria mushroom is not widely proven as safe, and may have legal, regulatory, or health risks. (3). Also be aware of deathly toxic Amanita species like Amanita phalloides (4)

Ingesting Amanita muscaria can be an unpredictable experiences. This stems from the mushroom’s complex chemical composition, primarily muscimol and ibotenic acid, which vary from mushroom to mushroom.

Muscimol acts on the central nervous system, leading to sedative effects. Ibotenic acid, a neurotoxin and precursor to muscimol, can induce excitatory effects. (2)

This dynamic interplay mirrors the unpredictable nature of encounters with Faery magic, where the boundaries between the known and the unknown blur, inviting distortions in self, time, and memory.

It can activate our desire to socialize, party, and be with others or make us extremely tired and sleepy, calling us into our dreams. This ancient mushroom opens our awareness of:

  • The circular nature of time
  • Ancestral magic
  • The deep past
  • Prehistoric plants and animal ancestors

I’ve found that working with this mushroom can sometimes support mental health issues, blocks around self-love, and help us digest deep wounds, repeating thought loops surrounded by fear, shame, guilt, etc.

The Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria) mushroom spirit brings us face to face with who we are and where and who we belong to. It can induce joy while supporting us in healing the blocks that prevent us from experiencing a more fully enchanted, magical, pleasure-filled, and sensuous life with nature and the divine.

In my experiences working with Amanita muscaria and channeling faery magic currents of power, I feel some uncanny overlap.

The practices of plant spirit medicine, faery witchcraft, and Amanita muscaria all act as a portal between the seen and unseen worlds.

As these forces seem to echo each other, there might be potential for some Faery witchcraft practitioners to partner with this mushroom spirit in their Faery witchcraft practices.

Where Mushrooms Meet Magic

Here are some practices where working with Faery magic and Amanita muscaria mushroom awaken similar powers:

  • The removal/rewiring of spiritual ailments Or healing
  • Below realms/underworld medicine
  • Ancestral healing and mediumship work Or death magic
  • Opening of psychic abilities, visionary states, and The Sight
  • Dreamwork and healing during sleep
  • Chanting, singing, and movement for ecstatic states
  • Expansive relationships with the cycles of time and space, cause and effect, past and future
  • Opening to the sensuous and magic in the body through the sensation of interconnection Or enchantment, wonderment, and awe
  • Awareness of and/or ability to participate in spinning the fate webs of creation Or magic

Building Relationships with Plant Spirits

I get the sense there is a deep need for nourishing and healing the heart space, especially around self and our relationships with the spirits of creation and the forces of nature.

Approaching plant medicine through the heart gives us a solid starting point from which to meet a particular spirit or medicine. So if you are interested in working with this mushroom, this is where I recommend you begin.

When we anchor into a giving and receiving heart space with a plant spirit, a deep and trusting love can be shared and fostered. This lays the tracks for healing magic to flow through our bodies and keep us safer in the process of mediating these ancient and potentially wild forces.

The Poisonous Plant Path For Witches

Faery magic, like working with Amanita muscaria, calls us to re-enchant our connection with the spirits of nature. Have you ever felt Faery ‘poisonous’ plant path calling you?
