Here at Cult of the Divine, ecstatic witchcraft practices are the way into the Mystery. This is a path of direct experience, at once deeply embodied yet transcendent, tempering us into vessels of the animal, the human, and the divine.

Below are some of my core practices that can bring us deeper into the workings of ecstatic witchcraft.

Dedication to the Work

The heartbeat of an ecstatic witchcraft practice is dedication to the work. A consistent practice provides many necessary things to us as practitioners. We are working with the medium of magic, which can be destabilizing if we aren’t intentional. I have found that this power is best handled when it is channeled somewhere productive, like daily devotion at an altar.

Cultivating a devotional heart for our practice creates a solid foundation for magic. Work at the altar can include giving offerings and prayers to the spirits of ecstatic witchcraft, a time to call in the seven directions, elements, and guardians, and serve as a dedicated time for magical rites.

We can also use that time to work on healing, deepening into love, spiritual cleansings, and personal alignment practices to keep us steady and strong in our witch-hood. This is also a sacred time where we are choosing to drop the veil between our physical dimension and the spiritual. This allows spirit messages to come through, new spirits, gods, or other contacts, and other valuable practice insights.

Plant Medicine

Occult herbalism and plant magic and medicine are guiding forces for the work. The consciousness that plants carry reveals potent secrets of the Universe. Plants are my most beloved teachers. They have a distinct consciousness that is all their own.

Deeply engaging with plant spirits changes the way we see reality. Plants open up worlds, and invites us into another dimension of Earth’s magic. In my practice, I especially like to partner with poisonous plants, entheogenic, and mind-altering plants and mushrooms for healing, learning, love, power, and revelation.

Spirit Work

Central to the practice of witchcraft is spirit work. This is the cultivation of heart-centered relationships with intelligences of the Otherworld: giants, faeries, djinn, angels, the dead, aliens, gods, plants, stones, and land.

Spirit relationships are real connections, not just abstract or symbolic concepts. Spirit bonds are a living, breathing part of magic, foundational to how a practice is shaped over time. They can be deeply loving, challenging, and require negotiation, just like our human-to-human connections.

Relationships to the spirits, gods, and ancestors are vital in finding our way through times of trial and ordeals. Spirit relationships are deeply nourishing connections of reciprocity, love, and exchange of power between worlds.

Land Magic

Another dimension of my ecstatic witchcraft practice is powerful land workings. In fact, these might be the highlight of the magical rites I have engaged in at the direction of spirits much older and wiser than I. The places I have lived and visited are typically tied to my magic.

The land carries the numinous spirits of place, stones, crystals, rocks, mountains, wells, rivers, dragons, weather, and landscape. Ancient, conscious forces reside deep within the layers of the earth. These forces are associated with great ages and eons of planetary cycles.

As witches tend to have a strong connection to the Earth, we can be tapped by the spirit world to perform land workings. These practices are engaged with to support the spiritual dimension of the planetary cycles of life, death, and renewal. We are actively re-enchanting, transforming, and healing humanity’s relationship with the Earth.

Death Magic

The way into the ecstasies of Faerie witchcraft is through cultivating a connection with death. Journeys through the Underworld are not just symbolic metaphors for death’s transformative powers, but a passageway into the initiatory rites of witchcraft.

It can start with building a nourishing relationship with the dead, ancestral veneration, and journeying into our own personal underworlds and shadows. Death magic can evolve into an even deeper understanding of chthonic forces and eventually lead to profound connections with underworld beings.

Shapeshifting

The transformative nature of ecstatic witchcraft is that it is a process of being completely made over in spirit. The practice of shapeshifting can be engaged with as an alchemical journey of change and personal evolution.

It can also be something more, a visceral sensation of shifting into different versions of spirit, experiencing reality from the perspective of other beings and forms of consciousness.

The Fetch-Soul, the most animalistic and dream-like part of a witch’s soul-matrix, can transform, shift, and blend into the consciousness of spirit world intelligences. Ecstatic witchcraft encourages cultivating the power to move consciousness from one part of us into this more astral part of self.

These practices, along with other mediumship and psychic tools, are essential for the ecstatic witchcraft practices of shamanic journeys, expanded states of awareness, and dream walking.
