5 minutes read time

Have you ever considered what your soul is? Here we will explore how Traditional witchcraft makes sense of the soul as composed of 3 souls along with the physical body.

Let’s delve into the meaning of the three souls in ecstatic witchcraft and how aligning the triple soul will have a positive influence on your magic.

The 3-Part Soul Matrix

Depending on the tradition you are coming from will determine how the soul is understood. Some traditions see the soul as one self like in Christianity, some as five parts like in the Kabbalah and Egyptian magic, and many other configurations.

This will influence how spiritual practices are engaged with. For example, if you use the framework that we have just one soul and one body, then this defines or narrows the possibilities of what we can do in spirit form.

In ecstatic witchcraft and some forms of traditional witchcraft, the soul is often understood as a three-part soul composed of the Fetch, Talker, and God-Self.

The three-part soul allows a witch to move consciousness into different layers of spirit. If the framework is already there mentally, it is much easier to engage with it spiritually or magically as well.

Definitions for the Triple Soul

Let’s define the three parts of soul in ecstatic witchcraft, the Talker, Fetch, and God-Self. Consider that these are all separatable parts of your being. You can blend, combine, align, and work with your 3 parts of self to many different ends.

Some witches and occult practitioners compare the three-part soul to concepts such as Nephesh, Ruach, and Neshama found in the mystical tradition of the Kabbalah.

The Fetch

Also called: The Dream Walker, Nephesh (Soul in Hebrew), Sticky One, Younger Self

Resides in: The Underworld, Faerie realm, the Other World, Dream Realm, Roots of the World Tree

This is the life-force part of the soul. The Fetch gathers energy, connects to dreams, ancestral memories, and the soul of the Earth. This part of self is malleable. It can shapeshift and take on different spiritual forms and animal characteristics.

The Fetch is most connected to our instincts, symbolism, magic, desire, survival, and the inner powers of the Earth and the unseen.

The Talker

Also called: The Surface Walker, Ruach (Spirit/Breath in Hebrew), The Aura, The Ego

Resides in: The Physical World, Material Realm, The Middle World, Trunk of the World Tree

This is the part of the self that contains the aura and energy bodies. It is the Ego, the I self. The part of us we get to develop into our personalities, identities, and self-expression.

The Talker is most connected with our hearts, mind, and emotions. It is bonded to and expressed in the middle world or physical realms.

The God-Self

Also called: The Star Walker, Neshama (Divine Soul in Hebrew), Deep Self, Goddess Self

Resides in: The Eternal, The Void, Celestial or Star realms, Branches of the World Tree

The God-Self is the part of us that is our guiding starlight. Sometimes experienced as outside of us, but this part of soul is deeply woven in with us. It is the part of us that is the creator, our spark of divinity.

The God-Self is most connected with the cosmos, with the eternal, and the One.

The Benefits of Soul Alignment

Working to align the souls can yield many positive results. Some things you can see after a steady practice of soul alignment:

  • Harmony between heart and mind
  • Clarity and psychic vision
  • Increased ability to see, feel, and move energy
  • Stronger access to magic
  • A sense of divine protection and guidance
  • Sharpened skills
  • A deeper love for the human experience
  • Heightened sense of awareness, pleasure, awe, and ecstasy

I am not going to go into details on how I do soul alignment practices out of respect for the traditions I learned from. Some of my training comes from Feri/Anderson Faery and this tradition prefers that non-initiates don’t share the practices. But for similar practices on soul alignment, I’d recommend checking out the work of Faery seer Orion Foxwood or the work of Lee Morgan. There are many ways and no right one way, so explore and see if your research yields soul alignment practices that resonate with you.

Ecstatic Witchcraft & The Soul

The souls and body are an ecstatic witch’s greatest secret. Without a relationship to the parts of self, we wouldn’t be able to journey outside of our body–or we still would but might not have a way to conceptualize or understand the experience.

The more you work with these parts of the self, the more the framework itself becomes just that, a framework from which to grow from. The reality of our existence is much more mysterious than a three-part model and is constantly changing. Our soul(s) are shapeshifting entities, which can be explored in the shamanic elements of Traditional witchcraft.

Some parts of the three-part soul might come with us from lifetime to lifetime while other parts might get re-absorbed into the Earth. What comes together to make up a human is unique. It is a fascinating thing to contemplate.

Aligning the soul, aligns us with the consciousness of the Universe, putting us in right step with the Cosmos. We can feel more whole, connected, and open to what is.
