My spirit loosens from my physical form, shimmying outward through waves of ecstatic bliss. I feel at once both expanded and microscopic. I have no boundaries, no clear division between me and the Universe. I see myself outside of ‘me.’ I am.
If I am in a trance, am I ‘in my body’ or ‘out of my body’ or somewhere in-between?
Are you a seeker on the ecstatic witchcraft path? An ecstatic witch is someone who works in trance states for direct, embodied mystical and magical experiences.
Let’s explore what it means to be an ecstatic witch, rooted in a pantheistic understanding, that the divine and the universe are one, contained within each other.

Ecstatic Witchcraft & the Divine
Ecstatic witchcraft is a path for direct experience with the Mystery. For those on a quest to engage in a deeply embodied study of consciousness and awaken a god-like essence.
Through this there is a deep calling to investigate what and who is ‘the divine’. What does divinity mean and how are we connected to the greater Cosmos and cycles of time, life, and regeneration?
You may or may not relate to the concept of the Divine. We all have different and nuanced experiences. But if you are interested in approaching ecstatic witchcraft through this lens, then contemplate the following questions:
- What is consciousness?
- Where did consciousness come from?
- Why do we experience consciousness?
- Does consciousness have an end or beginning?
Some say the differentiated Universe is God experiencing itself. As the One, god longed to experience herself. This desire lead to an explosion, referred to as the big bang or the shattering of the vessels, which dispersed divine energy aka consciousness or light or sound throughout creation.
It is said that we will all return to the timeless undifferentiated space of the divine and be reabsorbed into the Divine Oneness which is called Source, the All, Goddess, Creator.
As a central Faery/Feri Tradition prayer states:
Holy Mother in you we live move and have our being. From you all things emerge and unto you all things return
In ecstatic witchcraft, a personal discovery and experience of the divine, consciousness and the Mystery is engaged with experientially.
These are moments that require direct experience. They don’t translate to words and descriptions. Encounters with the Divine through a spirit of ecstatic witchcraft and other mystical traditions like Kabbalah or Sufism are hinted at in poetry, art, dance, and music.
Take for example that you are looking at a photo of the pyramids in Egypt. You might find the photo interesting, evocative, or beautiful. But the sensation hits much differently when you experience going inside of the pyramids in your body and now know the energy of what it feels like in your bones.
Touching the Divine is ineffable but ecstatic mysticism practices help induce these states and open us to the spirit world and cultivate a sensuous relationship with the cosmos.
The White Serpent Goddess – I AM
We are both creator and created. One of many seeming paradoxes that exist in our perception. The Void being another that creation emerged from nothing, zero – 0. But zero is a circle and contains everything.
There is a space, a Void that is all white, a vast expanse of seemingly nothing but a space of great love, peace, and eternity. It seems to go on forever, but lead nowhere. This space can be reached through trance, breathwork, shamanic journeying, and plant medicine journeys.
Discover Ancient Goddess Guidance
Everything is breathing, moving, vibrating. It is all sound. The Universe gives off a deep hummm. If you listen closely, you will hear the first sounds of creation.
The guide of this Void might be experienced as a white serpent goddess. She emphasizes the ‘I AM’ of our beingness.
We are. We exist. Like the divine I am. We are God-like, just as everything else in all of creation.
I invite you to try this God-Self-Opening Practice:
Meditate on the ‘I AM’ at the center of your being while taking deep slow breaths. Then take this energy a step deeper and try chanting a singular vowel sound that emerges from your personal god-space of ‘I AM’. Let the vowel sound come through intuition, whatever sound wants to come out, let it be what it is.
What tone wants to emerge from your being?

Altered States for Ecstatic Witchcraft
A key aspect of ecstatic witchcraft is learning to move into trance and altered states at will, moving into the dreaming mind of magic.
This is a non-linear state of being, a place where consciousness seems more lucid or geometric, spiritual gifts become more pronounced, and a sense of the numinous unfurls. The idea of self melts away and a merging with the oneness of creation manifests.
We get to experience awe, wonderment, synchronicity, magic, and power through these altered and trance states as a key element of ecstatic witchcraft. Getting support from spirit helpers, like dragons, is one portal into the non-linear.
Dragons in Magic – Guardians of Time & Space
Dragons are spirits in witchcraft who watch over the dimensions of time. Throughout history, humans have been connecting with the spirit of the dragon.
These spirits carry primordial intelligence. Dragon magic helps us understand deep planetary cycles as they are protectors of space, time, and the earth which translates into physical existence.
An ecstatic witch might work with dragon spirits in their practice, supporting a liminal, sensuous dreamlike altered state.

How do Ecstatic Witches Work with Dragons
Witches might work with dragons in their rituals. Dragon spirits can be called upon when casting a magic circle using special chants to call in dragons for each direction.
Dragons use color as a way to communicate with spirit workers on their elements, purpose, and role. Dragons are connected with serpents, snakes, and other reptiles, genies or djinn/jinn as well as birds, dinosaurs, and lions.
They are deeply tied to the land and magical land rites that bring healing, rain, storms, and cleansing. Dragons create openings across time, using portals to share energy from the past with the future and vice versa.
Connecting with dragons can be a powerful energetic exchange that deepens and transforms your ecstatic witchcraft. This work can put us in touch with the primordial stirrings of creation, the original magic.
Sacred Geometry in Ecstatic Witchcraft
One way we can witness dragon magic is through sacred geometry. Contemplating these mystical shapes can shift our consciousness into a deeper understanding of dragons in ecstatic witchcraft as a primeval, creative force.
Dragon spirits are very ancient and are deeply wise to the ways of earthly existence and its parameters like time, matter, space, and dimension.
Let’s look at the ouroboros, torus, and spiral as sacred geometric shapes to meditate on the origins of deep time and how this realm functions through cyclical patterns of life, death, and regeneration.
🌀Ouroboros

The ouroboros is a powerful magical symbol of a serpent or a dragon consuming its own tail. From the Greek words for ‘tail’ and ‘eating’, the ouroboros symbolizes:
- The cyclical nature of time
- Destruction (eating & consuming) and death as a part of the nature of time
- Time as movement and change
If we take all those statements and replace time with life, could we say that life and time are intertwined?
Without the construct of time which creates the apparent state of separation from eternal oneness, we wouldn’t be able to experience what we know of as life or the profound physical beauty of this creation.
🌀Torus

If you take the ouroboros and lay it on its side, we get our next sacred geometric shape, the torus. This is again a shape where energy feeds back in on itself.
Trees grow around this torus shape as does the toroidal field of the human heart.
“This magnetic field radiates in a looping, donut-shaped pattern known as a torus, expanding outward several feet from the body.”(1)
The Tree of Life is ubiquitous, associated with life nourishing traditions the world over.
As a model for the Universe, the World Tree, Yggdrasil, Tree of Life, the Axis Mundi, and so on, are a way for us to travel between worlds, to reach the interdimensional state of mind of the spirit realms.
Waking up to these other worlds is like becoming lucid in a dream. A familiarity is present, a strangeness, or even an unsettling presence as the known blends with the seemingly unknown.
This is where the heart comes in for practitioners of ecstatic witchcraft. Attuning the heart space to the energies of love, the sacred, and the divine creates a bridge for us to consciously connect to the collective soul of creation and see the divine in others leading to more compassion, peace, and love.
This is how you know you’re in a Faery state of being. Your heart is open and your soul ready for weaving connections and making magic.

🌀Spirals
The spiral might be one of our best symbols for our soul’s experience in this physical reality. It is reflected in our Milky Way galaxy and was used in ancient goddess art all over the world. The spiral was carved into stone, highlighting the cyclical, spiral aspects of life, creation, and time.
Everything is moving in cycles in the physical plane, repeating narratives with new stories. When we watch the land, weather, animals, and ourselves closely, we can witness pattern everywhere, not just spirals but a Universe built on sacred shapes and forms.
Notice if a theme keeps coming up for you. As you move from one part of the spiral to another, you might be moving closer to the center but still meeting past themes in new ways and working to shake off baggage from an earlier ‘rung’ on the spiral ladder.

Circular, moving, animated, the spiral can be worked with as a symbol to deepen a connection to Universal energies. You can draw a spiral in the air, either counter clockwise or clockwise or both ways to open a spirit portal.
Experiment and see what works for you. Sometimes instead of drawing an invoking pentacle for calling in the directions I chant and draw a spirals with my wand in all 7 directions North, East, South, West, Above, Below, and Center.

The Heart of the Ecstatic Witch: I AM THAT I AM
The Book of Exodus tells the story of Moses who encounters the spirit of God in a burning bush. When Moses asks, who are you? God responds with what can be translated into English as:
I AM THAT I AM

If we read a pantheistic view into this text, we can see that Moses, the burning bush (perhaps DMT containing acacia tree), and the voice of God are One, contained within each other.
Experiencing life from a place of unity, brings us into resonance with the frequencies of love, the heart, harmony, and divine bliss. We become the I AM, breathing in rhythm with the Mystery.
