Crystals, Earth Magic, & the Jinn: My Magic in Progress

9 minutes read time.

How does crystal magic integrate with witchcraft and the Jinn (genies)?

Let’s explore my personal experience of the cross-stitching between the Jinn and the crystal kingdoms, and how ecstatic witches can partner with them both for enchantment and Earth magic.

Why the Jinn and who they are?

One part of spirit work witchcraft that I appreciate is the variety of spirits and their associations. Each god, type of being, element, and plant has its own way of interfacing with our material world through what are often called correspondences.

For the Jinn, I have experienced a part of their magic that is woven in with the consciousness of stones, crystals, mountains, and rocks.

The Jinn are humanoid Earth spirits from what I’ve gathered. They fill the Earth and the sky while existing in a different dimension than our ordinary consciousness. I have found that they are much like Faeries and other spirits connected to the medicine of the Earth and the betwixt, liminal realms of consciousness.

The Jinn are a cross-cultural group of spirits. They are typically found in Arabic and Persian traditions and cultures, in Islam as spirits with free will, in Western folktales as genies, and in Judaism as either helpful or harmful spirits called the Sheydim.

The Jinn are beings of magic, shapeshifters, and tricksters. They are often associated with snakes and other animals, the element fire, the howling wind, ruins and spacious wilderness landscapes like the desert.

Crystal Consciousness: My Backstory

The consciousness of stones is distinct in my experience. Not only is my current day job in a crystal shop, but I have been connecting with the consciousness of stones since I was a child. I have a fond memory of growing crystals for a middle school science fair. I love how the things we do as children tend to show up in our adulthood.

Not only that, but my father has a background in geology. And even though I have found earth science to be on the dry side, I do prefer the magical dimension of rocks, stones, and minerals.

I love the allure stones have that bring treasure hunters and rock hounds into the crystal space, existing alongside crystal healers, magic workers, and other folks who feel the beauty and power of rocks.

I credit the deepening of my crystal connection ultimately to my mother, who had a years-long bout of crystal fever. This is how I started my collection of stone allies, some of my first crystals being gifts from her of azurite, elestial quartz, and emerald.

So with my parents’ blessing, unbeknownst to them, I have found myself on this very sweet journey with crystals and the consciousness of stones and rocks. And now that I finally live in a desert of my choosing, I have even more of an opportunity to commune with the rock consciousness that makes up the unique landscape of my surroundings.

The Metaphysics of Jinn and Crystals

The next question to address then is where do the Jinn fit into this metaphysical environment. My connection to the Jinn has only increased since moving to the desert. And my bond with crystals only grows deeper.

While the Jinn are invisible to our regular sight, it doesn’t mean they aren’t there in spirit. They have shapeshifting spirit bodies and appear to be able to pass through matter unimpeded.

More and more genies have started emerging from the rocks into my conscious awareness. The Jinn have shown me how they can interface with our world through rocks and crystals.

I can hold onto a magically charged ruby or opal, for example, and pass through more easily into their world or them into ours. They seem to come through the matrices of rocks and mountains, especially the Jinniyahs (female genies as I perceive them).

These specific beings have shown me that they are positive, beautiful, and powerful magical spirits. The thoughtful and intentional magical land rites I do as a witch, I believe, are carving out a portal for the Jinn to be more present in this geography.

What is it like to work with Jinn spirits?

It is no secret that witches traffic with spirits. What exactly those spirits are and how we work with them is a source of much variety in witchcraft.

As the Jinn have reached out to me on my path and I them, there is something in my consciousness, and perhaps theirs, that feeds a mutual recognition between us. I love the Jinn I have come to know like family and they care for me in much the same way. I have found the Jinn to be deeply loving, kind, and respectful spirits, who ask the same from us in return.

Working with them does mean stretching the boundaries of what you might believe as ‘real.’ My positive experiences with them could be because I am destined to work their magic or because the ones who have found me are particularly poised and regal.

I can’t speak for other folks’ experiences and I don’t believe all Jinn, just like I don’t think all people are always going to act with benevolence, care, and compassion. I don’t believe we are all working for the same conscious goals or towards the same conscious vision.

General Advice for Spirit Work in Witchcraft

Healthy discernment should be applied when engaging with the spirit realm. Therefore, always take precautions and employ protective measures when first getting to know a spirit. Give yourself time to grow through trust and understanding.

Spirit work is about building relationships. This can take time. It requires getting to know a spirit, checking in with self and other, experimentation, and asking permission and plenty of questions.

Developing excellent mediumship, psychic, and intuitive skills will help you to speak with spirits more clearly. The sharper these skills become, the easier it is to build intimate connections with spirits and translate the often surreal experience of touching the Other Side.

A Jinniyah and Her Crystals

I work predominantly with female jinn spirits, which are called jinniyah (singular). The female jinn, to me, seem to be particularly connected to crystal and Earth consciousness. They are the most likely to inhabit a stone on my altar and commune with me through the consciousness of a crystal or mountain.

Some crystals that have been supportive of our work together so far (but I’m sure this will continue to develop):

  • Tanzanite
  • Sapphire
  • Fire Opal
  • Ruby
  • Ammonite
  • Moldavite
  • Scolecite
  • Lapis Lazuli
  • Crystal Quartz
  • Azurite

I’ve used various crystals to ‘house’ these spirits on my altar. I hold onto the crystal that corresponds to the jinniyah’s vibration and color when communing with them. If I want to dream of a particular jinniyah, I will sleep with her corresponding crystal or whisper secrets into it before I go to sleep, praying for vivid and astral dreams.

For magical land rites, I bring multiple rocks and stones to help ground, transmute, and carry different magical powers and energies into the casting circle. I believe this also supports the jinn in traveling between worlds. Together, we use the crystals as a portal to act as a mutual meeting space.

The primordial current of Earth magic is calling and asking us to bring its medicine to the surface.

Earth Medicine and Jinn Enchantment

The surface of the land seems thirsty for enchantment. While the Earth and all its landscapes carry their own magic, humans have the special gift of moving power and magic between worlds.

We are in a time of great transition in human history, on the precipice of what will hopefully be a healthier and more magical era for all of life and the planet. The spirit realm seems to know this too and is inching closer to support our magical work.

One way to work within this liminal time of transition is to bring more magic into the world. The primordial current of Earth magic is calling and asking us to bring its medicine to the surface. This includes the raising of giants and dragons (which might be read literally or symbolically) and calling on the guidance of the Jinn who reside alongside them.

The deep pressure, heat, and intensity that smolder within the Earth create potent and conscious crystals over millions of years. The immense timescale alone carries a special medicine, a stability, beauty, and grounding.

This is the magic of the eternal. Slow and steady change and the mystery of Earth and its origins. This is deep magic, and also a source of power.

Perhaps the benevolent Jinn who partner with witches are also working towards Earth magic, medicine, and healing for a new era of being on this planet?

The Labyrinth of Jinn Magic

While there is much to say about Jinn, I will leave you with this. Their magic is a blessing to us. They have shown me the great beauty, pleasure, and sumptuous power of steady progress, of taking our time, being present, and moving with intention.

While they might come through the consciousness of stones, metals, and other materials, they also share in the consciousness of these substances that contain the magic of outer space, where everything in the material world originates. I feel these ancient forces of creation and destruction in motion. It is their time to resurface and re-establish their power and magic on the Earth in a new or evolved way.

Hold onto a crystal and commune with this energy or ask a Jinn spirit to come into your life and help you bring this magic brighter into your awareness.

We can bring it up from the core of the Earth and through the portal of the enchanted landscape, which we are a part of.
